The Ssarh'isse Desert
The Ssarh’isse Desert is the biggest territory on Etaliari, and encompasses many biomes, from endless dunes of wavering sands to canyons where rivers flow and dry, from subtropical lands to giant oases. The country stretches from the mountains and canyons of the Zorianos Bassin to the West, all the way to the fields, forests and coasts of Lumalisse to the East, bordering the snowfields and cold forests of Rakuri along the Northern border and the forests of Lotlein along the South.
The Ssarh have survived for millions of years in the heat of the desert they call home by building their settlements and towns around oases, and working toward keeping that life-giving oasis alive and well, treating it as well as they would their own hometree. Their towns and dwellings are built of stone and crystals that will keep their homes cool under the sun, with many canals slithering around bringing water to every part of town. Where the Lotlar excel in carpentry, the Ssarh are excellent stonemasons, and they show off their understanding of geometry and stone carving with carefully designed architecture that takes all of their needs into account; their skills in stonemasonry are often used by other species to better their own dwellings and towns. Because the Ssarh are natural traders at heart, their towns will be filled with goods to trade, their streets covered in trading posts and hoards of exotic goods, food and, sometimes, the occasional arcane objects, so prized for their rarity.
The capital of the Ssarh’isse Desert are the Ssany Towers, the largest and most advanced city on Etaliari. The Towers sit upon a group of floating mountains - a common sight in the northern desert - and were built vertically all across the mountains. A great many things can be found at the Towers, so they will usually be a great spot to start a new life in for any wandering Nameless Ikrouk wishing to start anew. The Towers, despite being high in the sky, can be accessed by utilizing ingenious elevators present all along the edges of the mountains; those elevators are used to bring in animals, carriages and everything that cannot be transported by flight.
The Towers are home to the Elder Clan of Ssarh’isse, lead by Lord Mahriar Ürü and Lady Feyana Ürü, as well as their large and impressive flock; indeed, the Ürü can be found all over the town, keeping watch on anything and everything happening. Atop the tallest tower, high in the heavens, one may find the perch to the Benevolent One; she has lived there ever since the Towers were built, and is the reason why the Towers have a high number of Eyes flying about.
The Ssarh’isse Desert is littered with ancient ruins covered by sand, so many settlements have been built around these research sites to make their understanding and study easier. These towns devoted to the study of the past are often called “Research Homes”. Many suggest that the ruins that dot the land are proof of an ancient and great civilization that existed prior to the Great Purification, and some suggest that entire cities are still present underneath the sands of the desert, and are just waiting to be uncovered. However, the ever greater presence of Corruption and Zaras in the desert make these research very hard to achieve, so only the bravest dare to take this path of truth.
